Sorrento Grammar’s Year 10 STEM team has been named as national finalists in the prestigious 2025 Global STEM Challenge. Their project, a sustainable water desalination system powered by solar energy, wowed judges with its innovation, research, and real-world application.

Working collaboratively over six months, the students applied design thinking, engineering principles, and scientific analysis to solve one of the world’s most pressing problems. Their prototype—built entirely from recycled materials—demonstrated not only technical skill, but a strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

“We’re proud of their creativity and their belief that students can make a global impact,” said Head of Science, Mr Julian Reid.

The team will now travel to Canberra to present at the National Science Forum later this term.
